Week 3 - Laser Cut
Group Assignment
We Characterized laser cutter's focus, power, speed, rate, kerf, and joint clearance . for more details check our group assignment page
Laser Cutter Machine
- Setup the different settings: Origin - Focus - Power - Speed
- Try all possible operations: Cut - Scan - Dot
Sheet Materials
Download material test file and open it with laser work to set parameters
• Try different materials: Plywood - MDF - Cork - Cardboard - Acrylic
Result
Repeat the same prosses but with different parameters for different materials Results:
- Calculate the kerf: (Kerf Equation) Kerf eq =(A-B) / 10 Measuring A
Measuring B
MDF 3.5mm | Cork | Plywood 6mm | Plywood 3mm | |
---|---|---|---|---|
A | 100.08 | 101.03 | 100.1 | 100.42 |
B | 98.19 | 98.98 | 99.05 | 98.46 |
Kerf | 0.189 | 0.205 | 0.105 | 0.196 |
Design for Laser Cutting
• use design parameters in Fusion 360 it’s by giving a name for each distance in your design such as materials thickness, height, and width. so that each time you modify a parameter, it would change in the design.
adding the kerf for the design to be laser cut
